Powells.com: The Best Novels of the 1990s
Portland bookstore Powells.com asked its customers to vote for the best
novel of the decade. The race was close - office pundits couldn't
confidently predict the winner until a few hours before polling stations
closed. By a narrow margin of 38 votes, Michael Ondaatje's "The English
Patient" took top honors, followed by E. Annie Proulx's "The Shipping News"
and Rebecca Wells' "Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood."
