Every budding writer is faced with two obstacles: inspiration and
publication. While inspiration generally arises from within, publication can
be a challenge. Those who have tried to get a work published know it's not
as easy as it sounds.
Thankfully, the Web provides a number of resources for new writers to
explore. From forums and writing tips to publication advice, Web-based
communities abound:
- Writersdigest.com
This is the official Web site of the world's largest magazine for writers.
It offers daily market updates, a list of more than 1,500 writer's
guidelines, a bookstore and a "Writer's Digest School" that provides
instruction on getting published.
- Fiction Writer's Connection
This site focuses on the nitty-gritty: finding an agent and getting
published. While there are a few free tip sheets, the full benefits of the
site - such as critiquing - are available only to members.
- Drew's Script-O-Rama
Contains a number of scripts, chat rooms and other interesting tidbits that
might provide ideas and inspiration.
- 4-Writers.com
Offers free online writing courses for fiction writers.
- The Elements of Style
The online reproduction of the classic reference - a must-read for all
aspiring writers.
