Hans Christian Anderson Medals
The International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) presents the Hans Christian Andersen Medals every other year to a living author and illustrator. The winner is honored for the complete works of his or her career, which have made a lasting effect on children’s literature. Queen Margrethe II of Denmark is the Patron of the Andersen Awards, and the National Sections of IBBY make the nominations. The Author’s Award has been given since 1956, and the Illustrator’s Award since 1966.
