Commonwealth Writers' Prize
In 1987, the Commonwealth Foundation established the Commonwealth Writers' Prize to award and encourage literary talent in the British Commonwealth. In four Commonwealth regions, two prizes of £1,000 are awarded annually, for Best Book and Best First Book. Those winners go to the final stage of the competition, where a panel decides the overall winners for Best Book, which receives £10,000, and Best First Book, which receives £5,000.
